Toy collectables are usually put into groups, rockets are usually in the science fiction or space age collectors ranges but there is no reason as a new collector you cannot start with one theme and then expand.
Rockets and the space age have been an intricate part of play for most boys throughout the last few decades. N ot many have missed having a rocket in their toy box.
Types of Rockets
For the needs of play there are hundreds of thousands of types of rockets, from the soft squeezy type for the very young, to the ones with noises and moving parts, to the detailed models of actual spacecraft. For the needs of rocket collection there are 3 categories

Models
Toy rockets usually survive well, they are made in single pieces not added accessories, they normally outlive the playtime of a three year old.
These are often found for around $30-$40+ they are made of thick, robust plastic. They are usually brightly coloured and shinny to get the attention of babies and toddlers, who have a very short attention span.
The second class of rocket have more “extras” lights, noises, moving pieces to enhance the play value to any individual. They often have separate accessories, such as launch pads, astronauts, capsules, stickers etc
Manufacturers aim intensely at the 10-12 year old market because of these extras and additional pieces that make these rockets more interesting and captivating to both the child and the collectors. The small pieces make them very unsuitable for young children.
Some of these rockets launch from a pad with a mechanism in the launchpad, they are also often more mobile and used for action play,
Don´t expect too many details on these as they are usually simplified forms and can be picked up easily by collectors for very small amounts of money, there are many types of these rockets so easy to start a collection.
The third class is for the older children and even adults as they a scale sized models of actual spacecraft American or any other nationality. These take time and dedication to complete successfully, steady hand, glue or screws produce an excellent replica of an existing spacecraft. These can be collected quite inexpensively and are very varied in the types so can build a collection very quickly. They are eye catching and interesting to talk about.
